A sellout concert with Swineshead Silver Band at Heckington St Andrews Church under the musical direction of John Lyon featuring guest vocalist Elaine Huckle.
Project Heckington 100 has been formed by a group of local people to pay tribute to the men and women of Heckington and other local villages who made the ultimate sacrifice in the First World War.
The project will cover a series of events from July to Remembrance Day in November.
A major undertaking of the group is to produce a cascade of poppies in St Andrew’s Church.
Thousands of poppies are required to produce an everlasting memorable display.
Organisers had an initial target of 1,000 poppies, however this has now been surpassed.
Heckington residents and people from not just out of the village or county, but out of the country and even continent took up the challenge. Poppies are being handed in on a weekly basis and have come from all corners of the globe including Australia, Ireland, and many different locations within the UK. As of this week the number of poppies knitted crotched and made from other material has reached around 16,500.
Poppies will be on display in St Andrew’s Church, Heckington, from Saturday, October 27, to Sunday, November 11.
A DVD will be made to commemorate Project Heckington 100 with all proceeds to the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
